How the Gallery Pieces Started as Chorus Charts
How the Gallery Pieces Started as Chorus Charts
Every drawing on the wall began as timing marks for a song — where the breath lands, where the second chorus refuses to copy the first.
By Friday rehearsal the chart looked more like weather than notation: pressure fronts, dry lines, a cold front where the bridge should be.
I photographed the whiteboard, blew it up, and started subtracting until only gesture remained. The editions in The Gallery are not “illustrations” of the music; they are the same decisions, translated into pigment and paper.
